An early present for parents…

FITC running festive programme for the little’uns

Christmas is coming early for frazzled parents, thanks to Exeter City’s Football in the Community department who are holding courses across Devon on 23rd and 24th December, including special ‘drop and shop’ sessions in Exeter.

There will be a two-day football roadshow in the sports hall at Riverside Leisure Centre – with special appearances from Exeter City players on both days – as well as two Grecian Days at St James Park, which include a tour of the ground, a competition to design a kit for the team and a special Christmas treasure hunt.

Grecian Day sessions cost £20 per day and include Domino’s Pizza for lunch, as well as all games, competitions and prizes and a goody bag to take home.  Each takes place in a safe, supervised environment, with Exeter City’s FA-qualified coaches leading the sessions.  The cost of the roadshows is £27 for the two days, or £15 for a single day.

An added incentive is free parking for parents at St James Park – perfect for all that last-minute shopping – which is subject to availability and must be booked in advance.

There are also two-day events running in Crediton, Dawlish and Barnstaple on 23rd and 24th December.

“The last couple of days before Christmas can be hectic for parents, so we thought it would be a good idea to host some sessions that will be fun for the children and give the parents a little bit of breathing space,” Scott Walker, sports development officer at Football in the Community, said.  “The events provide a great opportunity for children to brush up on their football skills or see behind the scenes of our club - as well as tiring them out for a good night’s sleep on Christmas Eve.”

As well as the pre-Christmas courses, the club will also be hosting a series of New Year roadshows.  In Exeter, there is a Tiny Tots session for children aged 3-6 on 30th December, plus a Futsal course on the same day, and there will be a Match Mania event the following day – all at the Riverside Leisure Centre sports hall.  There are three two-day events in Exmouth, Feniton and Sidmouth on 30th and 31st December.

A special disability session for 7-16 year olds will be running on 30th December at Riverside which is open to children and young people with any form of disability, learning or physical, with the emphasis on fun and participation and is run by FITC’s FA-qualified coaches who have attended specialist disability sport training courses.
