Danny: “I’m here to contribute”

City defender here to make an impact on the pitch

Latest City signing Danny Butterfield is looking forward to getting his first appearance as a City player under his belt sooner rather than later – and says that he is here to make his impact on the pitch.

The defender brings with him plenty of knowhow about the game after a career that has seen him feature at the highest level.  And while he hopes that his influence will rub off on City’s younger lads as a bonus, he insists that his primary focus will be on helping the lads get three points every Saturday afternoon.

“First and foremost I’m signed here to contribute to the first team,” explained Butterfield.  “In and around the training ground I’d like to use my experience to speak to the younger boys.  But first and foremost it’s to contribute to the team.

“If I can add and give a bit to the lads that are coming through – which are a good set on first appearances – then I’ll certainly play a part in that as well.”

After a good first week settling in with City, it remains to be seen whether he will be ready ahead of the Fleetwood Town fixture.  However he is looking forward to getting stuck in – and cited his meeting with City boss Paul Tisdale as the deciding factor.

“Once I met Tis, I wanted to sign for the club straight away,” continued Danny.  “We met on a Sunday afternoon – he rang me on a Saturday afternoon after a game, so I drove across and met him.

“We spoke a lot about me as a person, Tis as a manager, Tis’s philosophy on football and how he likes the game played, and what he expects of his players.

“I presume he liked what he heard, and I certainly liked what I heard, and it was a move where I wanted to come and play for the manager.”
