Exeter City Football Club host families from CLIC Sargent and Bramble Ward
On Saturday 29th March, 20 families who are currently being supported by CLIC Sargent were treated to a day at the football courtesy of Exeter City Football Club and a group of the club’s sponsors as the Grecians hosted Accrington Stanley at St James Park.
The families were given a tour of the ground, food and drinks, enjoyed an electronic football game and a magician, had raffle prizes and sweets to take away and watched the match from the main Flybe Stand.
CLIC Sargent supports children and young people with cancer. They provide clinical, practical and emotional help and support to families. The local staff are based on the Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Despite Exeter City losing on the day, everyone enjoyed the match. Stephanie Cherington-Rimmell, Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent said, “We are so grateful to the club and their sponsors for arranging this special day. It is a fantastic opportunity for families to take a day out and enjoy some quality time together.
“Some of the children were able to go on the pitch and meet the team captains before the start of the match, which was a real treat. The atmosphere was wonderful and everyone enjoyed themselves, with parents and siblings joining in the fun too.”
After a tour, the children were able to meet the players and enjoyed getting autographs and pictures with the squad.
Bruce Henderson, Business Development Manager at Exeter City, said, “The CLIC Sargent visit to a matchday has become an annual event and something the club take huge pleasure in being involved with. The credit goes to the 11 sponsors and groups who made it possible this year, the staff of CLIC Sargent and of course to the children and their families. Meeting them is always inspirational and moving.”
