Coach Edevaldo de Freitas is himself a graduate of Flu’s youth system, and went on to feature for the Brazil national team in the 1982 World Cup.
Meanwhile goalkeeper Jennerson, who joined Flu as a futsal player at the age of six, has a flourishing reputation as a penalty stopper and kept out two spot-kicks when the Tricolor won the Rio Cup last year.
In the manner of countrymen Roberto Carlos and Marcelo, full-back Ayrton has a traction engine of a left peg and has pace to burn, while Fernando is the string-puller in the final third that can thread the needle and contribute with goals.
In attack, Felipe has become a pivot in attack for Flu – he acts as a reference point for the other attackers to work off, and has been known to produce some quality finishes.
