Summer signing looking forward to new season
Lee Holmes, whose summer signing for Exeter City was confirmed on Thursday morning, is confident of enjoying a fruitful 2015/16 season with the Grecians. The winger made an instant impression at St James Park during his eight appearances on loan from Preston North End, and he will now become a permanent member of Paul Tisdale’s squad.
He becomes the second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Manny Oyeleke earlier this month.
And he revealed that he has enjoyed his time in Devon so far and that his short spell on loan at the club was instrumental in his decision-making.
“It has all taken a little bit of time, but I am something I am really happy about and pleased to have been able to have got something sorted,” said Lee.
“There were a lot of plusses for me and there were a lot of boxes that it ticked. There were obviously other clubs that came in to speak to me, but they just didn’t fulfil everything that Exeter has done for me in these last months of the season.
“The manager had been so welcoming and I really liked what he was doing and where he wants to take the club. I had an enjoyable time on the pitch, and the relationship I had with the fans was nice.
“Something special is happening at Exeter and I want to be part of it. I have been lucky in some respects that I have been able to get a little sampler of the club before I signed.
“There are a lot of cases where you can sign for a club and you don’t really know what you’re getting yourself into, and whether you are going to enjoy it. But from my personal experience I got to have a little snapshot of what Exeter is about as a place and a club, and the type of football this team plays.
“For me to be able to have that little insight was also vital for me signing. I think if I hadn’t come down on loan, we would probably have been having a different conversation now, because I wouldn’t have got to see what a great club and how great a place it actually is.”
