Julian Tagg on Jordan Moore-Taylor's contract

After seeing a lot of discussion and speculation around Jordan Moore-Taylor’s move to MK Dons I hope a brief explanation of the contractual situation factors and position will be helpful.

Whilst nothing can dissipate the disappointment of losing our club captain, it is important to clarify the rules and regulations that surround it.

At 24 years old, Jordan was able to leave, as any young player at the same age that had come through their clubs youth programme, would be entitled to do, on a 'free'. This is due to the Bosman ruling and any player in this position would no doubt have been advised by his agent that he should wait for any new offers. In Jordan’s case there were a significant number, which would enable him to maximise his opportunity to achieve a financial return which his ability and the market place was likely to deliver.

Despite the club’s creative and improved deal that gave us a fighting chance of keeping Jordan, having narrowly missed out on achieving promotion last season, and not being able to match what the marketplace can offer and his talents determine, Jordan decided to join MK Dons and we could and can do no other than thank him for his massive efforts and genuinely wish him well with his career.

To avoid further conjecture this contractual situation and the circumstances surrounding it were unique and do not apply to any other squad member.

The club continues to work tirelessly to prepare for the new season, with the early focus on getting Matt Taylor’s backroom staff in place, it is intended that announcements will follow later this week.
