Matt Taylor has explained why he believes need recruit Sam Stubbs will be perfect addition to his squad.
The 22-year-old joined the club on Thursday on a two and a half year deal from League One outfit Fleetwood Town and came highly recommended to Taylor by former Grecian George Friend.
"Sam is a player we have been interested in for a long time and I had an excellent recommendation from George.
“He is a character and an old school centre half which is something you don’t often get in such a young body. He became available and we wanted to move. We are looking to build the team around him."
Stubbs is not yet ready to play for City after undergoing knee surgery in December, but is not far off making his Exeter City debut, and the manager believes he will play a vital role from the off.
“I am certain we will see his value in the next month or so when he is ready to play. We have 25 games left this season and he will be really important in that period.
“Character is a big thing when you come to Exeter City and he has shown he has that. We want our defenders to be as aggressive as possible and he’ll be a great asset in both boxes."
