Last week's EFL Youth Development shined a light on the work of Exeter City Academy, but there is also another part of some young scholar's journeys that often go under the radar.
Last week we caught up with Ruth Lawrence, who took part in the Host Family programme for many years, and took in Cheick Diabate following his move down to Devon from London.
In the warm surroundings of Ruth's home on the outskirts of Exeter, we sat down with the pair to discuss Cheick's journey through the host family programme, from nervous teenager to first team centre-half, with Cheick opening up about some personal struggles, rediscovering his religion, living away from home, and finding a second family in the Lawrences.
