Ahead of this weekend's dedicated #HerGameToo double header at St James Park, we are delighted to announce that Pierce Sweeney has signed up as the club's first ever #HerGameToo Player Advocate.
As a player advocate, Sweeney will play a critical part in championing and supporting the Her Game Too message within the football club – through supporting and promoting the aims and objectives of the campaign.
His role will include using his social media presence to share key messaging, assist the club's work with our Her Game Too ambassador, and help ensure St James Park remains an inclusive environment, as well lending his support to Exeter City Women.
Speaking about the role and the campaign message, Sweeney said: "I'm really pleased to take up this role as the club's #HerGameToo advocate to help spread awareness of what they are trying to do.
"As someone with a young daughter, if she ever wanted to play football I don't understand why that should ever be an issue. If they want to watch or support football then they shouldn't face discrimination. If that was my daughter and she got slated at school because of football I'd be absolutely gutted.
"Whatever your gender, you should have the same opportunities to be involved in football. In my opinion it's absolutely barbaric that you can be abusedin a sporting environment because you're a woman, so I'm really pleased to support the campaign.
"All of us at the club are supporting the cause and we will support it as much as we can. It's vitally important we do."
This weekend's double-header at SJP, as the men take on Lincoln and the women face Portishead, is dedicated to #HerGameToo. You can buy tickets for both matches here.
