Exeter City are delighted to announce the return of Dan Green to the coaching staff following his departure from Rotherham United.
Dan previously held the position of under-18s coach with the Grecians and played a role in the development of players such as Ollie Watkins, Ethan Ampadu, Jack Sparkes and Archie Collins. Following the appointment of Matt Taylor as City's manager in 2018, Dan was put in charge of the club's under-23s team who he guided towards qualification for the Under-23 Premier League Cup in the 2018/19 season.
Increasingly working with the first-team squad during the 2021/22 promotion season, Dan subsequently left the Grecians in August 2022 to join Aston Villa as an under-21 coach before moving to Rotherham United in June 2023 as first-team strategic development coach.
In his new role of Individual Player Development Phase (PDP) Coach, Dan will be responsible for the individual development of first team players and young professionals, and will be key in ensuring our young players and first team players with potential get specialised work and attention to help them develop.
"It's a really strange feeling to be back. So many elements of the club are the same as when I left, but what is most pleasing is to see how the club has evolved and pursued an improvement in all areas," Dan said on his return.
"Full credit has to go to the club for having a longer term plan and seeing the value that something like this training ground can now add to the players we have got now but also those we hope to attract in the future.
"I've come back after two experiences that were very different to the previous 12 years before and I have learnt a lot that hopefully I can apply to support the players and management.
"There are so many areas that get you exposed to different experiences and sometimes they are ones that aren't the most enjoyable at the time but actually you reflect and realise you have learnt a hell of a lot."
“Dan was someone who when I joined the club I heard a lot about because of his role before and his influence on younger players, and his own personal progression into the first team,” manager Gary Caldwell added.
“When his circumstances changed we were quick to bring him back. I think we are bringing a better and different coach back given he has seen different things at Villa and Rotherham.
