There’s a new man between the posts at St James Park as Exeter City announced the signing of goalkeeper Joe Whitworth from Crystal Palace.

After crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s on a season-long loan move from the Premier League club, City’s new goalkeeper sat down to talk about his move to EX4.

“I’m absolutely buzzing (to get the deal done)!

“It’s been going on for a few weeks and I’ve spoke to the gaffer a few times and so I’m really happy to get it done.”

Despite being only 20 years old, Joe has already made two Premier League starts for the Eagles last season, including an impressive debut in the M23 derby against Brighton and Hove Albion. That match also made Joe Palace’s youngest ever top flight keeper.

“It was an unbelievable experience for me, it came a bit unexpectedly but I really enjoyed it and it was great for my development."

“It was a decent season with the under-23s; I played a lot of games, and we capped it off with a win in the International Premier League Cup against PSV in a great match.”

After the success of Vil Sinisalo in goal for City last season while on loan, Joe is keen to build on what the Fin accomplished while developing his own game.

“I’ve heard about how the lads done last season; they did really well, especially Vil.

“I’m looking forward to making that even better, and looking forward to working with Kev and the gaffer, learning off their experience."

“The main thing that the gaffer said was how much confidence and belief he has in me, that was what drew me here."

"He spoke about what I can bring to the team and how he believes that we can do really well with how I play and obviously bring that to the team.”
