Pierce Sweeney was frustrated at the way he and his teammates began the first half, believing it cost City the game against Reading this evening.
The Grecians conceded after 58 seconds and then again in the 38th minute, and despite Ilmari Niskanen scoring his first goal for the club midway through the second half, City couldn't find an equaliser.
"Started the game really poorly, little bit fluffy. Probably our mentality and attitude towards the start of the game wasn't where it needed to be," said Pierce.
"Reading pressed us really well and we just didn't recognise where the space was or where to put the ball."
However, the second half was a much improved performance from the Grecians, something which Pierce believes the team can build on going into the weekend's game at Huddersfield Town.
"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb, but we were confident we could create chances in the second half.
"We've just got to take that second half of the game into Huddersfield, if we approach that game with the same attitude and desire I don't think any team in this league can match us."
