Exeter City is delighted to announce the appointment of David Oldfield as the club's new Under-18 Lead Coach.

David, 56, brings a wealth of experience to the Grecians, having made over 600 EFL appearances during a playing career with clubs such as Leicester City, Luton Town, and Peterborough United. Following his playing days, he transitioned into coaching and management, most recently serving as manager of Weymouth in the National League. He has also held managerial roles at Oxford City and coaching positions at Peterborough, West Brom, Burton Albion, QPR, and MK Dons.

The Australian-born former midfielder has taken up the job following the departure of Nicky Ajose to Manchester City Women in November.

On David's appointment, Academy Head of Coaching Ian Parkes said: “We’re thrilled to welcome David to the club.

"The role of Under-18 Lead Coach is a vital part of our academy’s mission to develop not only quality players but also well-rounded individuals. In David, we’re confident we have someone who can drive us forward.

"Although he’s only been with us for a short time, David has already made a noticeable impact on both the players and coaching staff. We’re excited to see how his expertise and experience will continue to benefit the academy.”

David joins midway through the season and has already taken charge of one game against Oxford United at the weekend. This week, the under-18s face Fulham in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday at Dorchester's Avenue Stadium, with the young Grecians looking to make history by reaching the fifth round for the first ever time.

Speaking about his appointment, David shared his enthusiasm for joining the club.

"I'm very pleased to be here, looking forward to working with everybody here and looking to progress us moving forward."

"It's been a whirlwind last few days but it's been really great to see the boys and the staff and everybody's made me feel really welcome so I'm very much looking forward to it.

"There's some good young players here and the club have a real determination to try and get them through, and I have to say the first team staff have a real want to play young players if they're good enough. Having that joined up thinking throughout the club is very attractive."
