Exeter City is delighted to announce that Liam Oakes has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The talented midfielder, who can also play on the right, will make the step up to the first team this summer after graduating from the academy, where he has played since the under-9 age group.

Liam made his first team debut for the Grecians at the start of the season against Walsall, and has gone on to make four appearances for Gary Caldwell's side. In addition to this, he's been a regular in the Premier League Cup, as the under-21s went unbeaten in the group stage with Liam scoring a belter from the edge of the box against Bristol City.

"I'm buzzing to be honest with you," said Liam shortly after signing.

"It's what you dream of when you're a kid - becoming a professional footballer."

Currently, Liam is out on loan at Plymouth Parkway alongside fellow academy graduate Tom Dean, getting his first experience of regular men's football.

"The physical side for me is massive, playing with men every week makes it very beneficial for me because it shows what level I need to get to physically.

"The men's side makes me have to be better, it gets shown if you're not up to that level in that league.

"I need to come back for pre-season as fit as I can, ready to go, and kick on from there."
