Women's Match Preview: Worthing (H)

Match preview graphic. Text reads: MATCH PREVIEW / SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8 - 2PM, COACH ROAD / ADOBE WOMEN'S FA CUP. Badges of Exeter City and Worthing are on the page, as is an image of Sarah Stacey celebrating with a knee slide and her arms stretched out.

Exeter City Women will look to progress to the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup for only the fifth time in the team's history this weekend, with Worthing the visitors to Coach Road as Abbie Britton's side will look to maintain their unbeaten record at the Newton Abbot venue.

The Grecians have reached the FA Cup Fourth Round in 1983, 1987, 2001 and most recently 2022, where a penalty shootout defeat to West Bromwich Albion denied City a place in the Fifth Round for the first time in the team's history.

Victory on Sunday opens the possibility of drawing a Women's Super League side in Round Four and this squad will be keen to further establish their place in the club's record books heading into 2025.

The Opposition

Worthing enjoyed a strong 203/24 season, finishing third in Division One South East behind Norwich City and eventual league winners AFC Wimbledon. A move into the South West Region this season has resulted in a tougher campaign to date, the Rebels winning five and losing four of their nine league games. Wins over Bournemouth Sports, Moneyfields, Bridgwater United, Abingdon United and Maidenhead United have come alongside defeats to Keynsham Town, Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town and AFC Bournemouth.

Cordon's side breezed past Abingdon United with an 8-1 away success before a penalty shootout victory against Aylesbury set up today's third round tie.

With the summer departure of last season's leading goalscorer Becky Bath, the West Sussex side have found a new goal threat in Tierney Scott, the former Portsmouth forward hitting eleven goals in her fourteen appearances. Danielle Rowe, Chloe Winchester, Emma Blakely and Sophie Humphrey all provide a strong core to the team and one that will be looking to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in the team's 137 year history.
