Jack Fitzwater signs new City deal!

Jack Fitzwater new deal

We are delighted to announce that defender Jack Fitzwater has signed a new contract, taking his time with the Grecians up to the end of the 2026/27 season.

Jack joined the club in September 2023 and has so far made 16 first team appearances for the Grecians, since joining following his departure from Livingston.

Nine of these have been this season, including in Tuesday night's 2-2 draw against Wycombe Wanderers. Jack has played a big role in City winning all three of their Vertu Trophy matches this season and has featured in our Premier League Cup U21 team as an overage player with the squad currently top of their group.

On his new deal, Jack said:

"I'm delighted. It happened quickly, and I'm really happy and I cannot wait for the next couple of years."

"As a professional you always have to be ready to take your chance, and I have played quite a few games in the EFL Trophy and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Obviously, I want to be playing more games in the league going forward. Hopefully this season and the seasons going forward I can establish myself as a regular starter.

"It's also been great to help those younger players coming through. I know when I was younger I looked up to those established players, and I'm always there to do what I can to help. I learn off them too, which is always good."

Speaking about offering Jack a new deal, manager Gary Caldwell said:

"Since Jack has come in he hasn't played as much as he would have liked due to various things, but his character and his personality, and whenever he does play, is at such a high level."

"He is the type of player, and type of person, that we want to build the team and the squad around, so when we started discussing this it was a no brainer to get it done.

"We've done it with other players such as Jack Aitchison and Imi [Niskanen] and put them on longer contracts, and Fitzy falls into the category - we're delighted."
