Camelford, Man City and Exeter Uni to provide opposition for City
Exeter City are pleased to announce three additional match dates for supporters to take note of in the coming month, away from the normal first-team fixture schedule.
Camelford, Manchester City under-18s and the University of Exeter will provide opposition to City representative squads over the next four weeks, offering supporters a chance to see some of the Exeter’s exciting young players in action.
The Grecians will be sending an under-21 squad to Camelford’s Trefew Park on Monday 9th September for a 7pm kick-off. The Camels were winners of the Budweiser Club Futures award in the south west last season and so earned a £50,000 grant to improve their facilities, after submitting plans which included their intention to install solar panels at their ground to support their club’s sustainability over the coming years. Grecians manager Paul Tisdale was their guest when he presented Camelford with their hard-earned cheque last year.
Then Exeter City’s under-18s will be facing their counterparts from Premier League giants Manchester City in a friendly fixture at St James Park on Tuesday 10th September (kick-off time and entry prices TBC). St James Park hosted an extremely popular Youth Alliance Cup final between the Grecians and Doncaster Rovers in May 2012 which drew a bumper crowd. This match against the Citizens' youngsters will give the City starlets a chance to experience playing on the St James Park pitch – as well as supporters a chance to see City’s future stars against Man City’s prodigies.
And on Wednesday 25th September, the Grecians will be fielding scholars of their own against the cream of the crop from the University of Exeter first team, in the ever-popular Varsity match at St James Park (kick-off time and entry prices TBC). The fixture gets City fans mingling with students from the university – the University of Exeter is one of the best-performing higher-education institutions in the country and has superb sports facilities across the city. Exeter have typically fielded teams of Academy players and young professionals in the Varsity fixtures in recent years.
These new matches are also in addition to Exeter’s second round tie in the St Luke’s Bowl against Exmouth Town. The match will take place on Wednesday 16th October at St James Park, with a 7.30pm kick-off. Entry prices will be arranged in due course.
