Grecians drawn at home to Blackburn

Exeter given home tie against Championship outfit

Exeter City have been drawn at home against Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the last 16 of the Under-21 Premier League Cup.

The tie will take place on Tuesday 7th January 2014, kicking off at 7pm.

The Grecians dismantled Torquay 4-1 in their first qualifier at St James Park, before upsetting the odds away at Selhurst Park with a 3-2 win against Crystal Palace in the next qualifier.

And the biggest scalp of all came when the Grecians defeated Southampton – who have in recent weeks drawn plaudits for their youth set-up – with a comfortable 2-0 win at St James Park.

Blackburn, who like the Saints run a Category 1 Academy, overcame Hull City with a 3-1 win in their first-round tie to set up a date at St James Park.

Exeter City remain the only League 2 club left in the competition, while the only League 1 side that is guaranteed a place in the last 16 is Wolverhampton Wanderers.  Bristol City will need to overcome West Ham United to join them.

The Grecians are also one of only three Category 3 Academies left in the competition, alongside Watford and Burnley.

The date and time of the fixture will be confirmed in due course.  Admission prices will also be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
