City representatives to face Plymouth in FA Disability Cup
Sunday 24th February
FA Disability Cup Southern Section first round
Exeter City Ability Counts 7
AFC Bournemouth Ability Counts 1
Exeter City’s Ability Counts team beat their counterparts from AFC Bournemouth by a 7-1 scoreline, to reach the Southern Section semi-final in the inaugural FA Disability Cup.
The Grecians are now due to face Plymouth Argyle’s representative side on Sunday 24th March.
The tie against AFC Bournemouth was played at the Coach Road ground at Devon County FA headquarters, in Newton Abbot. There are a total of 16 teams in this year’s tournament, and the final will be contested at St George’s Park in Burton upon Trent.
The match was played in good spirits, with Exeter City dominating right from the start. They created numerous chances before getting the first goal through James Perree.
They continued to create openings and a drive by Paul Clements and a strike by Joseph Emmanuel put the Grecians 3-0 up at the break.
City continued to dominate possession in the second period, and a fourth goal was soon forthcoming through Richard Pearce’s strike from distance.
Sitting on a strong lead, a bit of complacency set in by the Grecians and a mix-up in the defence allowed the Cherries to profit and reduce the arrears to three.
However it only galvanised the hosts, who extended their lead through a second goal for Perree, before Chris Harbor and Chris Herring wrapped up the scoring.
