Curo & Doc in Team of the Week

City pair amongst League 2 selection for Morecambe performance

City duo Tommy Doherty and Jamie Cureton were both awarded places in the npower League 2 Team of the Week for their displays last weekend against Morecambe.

Midfielder Doherty, who was back in the starting XI after watching the Aldershot match from the bench the week before, was a metronomic figure in the centre of the field by showing plenty of bite in the tackle, quick feet at close-quarters and always offering to receive.  The Irishman laid on an exceptional pass for Cureton’s first goal, and his booking comes under the heading of ‘taking one for the team’.

Cureton notched his 17th and 18th goals of the season to earn his place in the divisional selection.  His first goal still needed him to show his predatory instinct after receiving Doherty’s delightful pass, which he thundered past Barry Roche.  His second – in the dying embers of the match – was rocketed past the Shrimps’ stopper from an unthinkable angle after being laid in by Mark Molesley – and found the postage stamp in the top corner.
