Ollie Watkins in running for LFE ‘Goal of the Month’
Exeter City under-18 striker Ollie Watkins has been shortlisted for the League Football Education (LFE) January Goal of the Month competition for his strike against Swindon Town.
After collecting the ball outside the area, the striker showed a burst of acceleration to step outside his man, before bending a low effort into the far corner.

Matt Jay – who also scored in the fixture, and laid in Watkins for his plaudit-earning goal – was shortlisted for the monthly prize in December, as he finished off a slick team move against Yeovil Town.
The duo have been scoring regularly, and have forged quite a partnership which has helped the City under-18s to an undefeated streak dating back to the start of December. As well as scoring regularly, they are both also creating goalscoring chances for other teammates too.
LFE was established by The Football League and the PFA in 2004 to deliver the Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme to all of the Football League clubs in England and Wales.
LFE Chief Executive Alan Sykes said: “This competition is popular with our apprentices, clubs and the general public. It highlights the good work taking place right across the Football League to develop talented young players.”
To watch and vote for Ollie’s finish in the goal of the month competition, please visit the LFE Website at www.lfe.org.uk/goal-of-the-month. Voting will remain open until midday on Monday 18th February.
