Brazil trip – Q&A

A heads-up on some anticipated questions about our return to Brazil

Following the exciting Friday afternoon announcement that Exeter City will be returning to Brazil, 100 years after the original South American tour, we have put together a Q&A for fans about the game and the trip.

It was announced that Exeter City will be travelling to Rio de Janeiro to play an historic fixture against Fluminense on 20th July 2014 at the Estádio das Laranjeiras in Rio de Janeiro.

Should we get any more recurring questions, we will add them to this page as a point of reference.

Is the club arranging flights (or tours/hotels etc)?
The club will, in due course, be appointing an official travel partner which will handle all the club's official travel and tour packages. Please follow the club's website for more details as they become available.

The press release says that there may be a change of date – when will we know if that is the case?
There is a very small chance that the date may change.  Should this be the case, the club will know by the end of September and will announce any changes then.  However, currently the club is committed to the 20th July 2014 date.

Unfortunately we accept that this will make booking flights/hotels difficult before final confirmation, but please appreciate that the club is in the same situation.

How do I get a ticket?
The gate will be limited to the size of the crowd that attended the original match, which is just above 3,500.  (This is due to both the historical element and due to the police concerns for traffic and the safety licensing considerations for a stadium in the middle of Rio de Janeiro).

However, the club is very confident that there will be enough tickets on sale via the club to satisfy the demands of genuine Exeter City fans who can travel to the game.  The club will announce these details when they are known and we suggest you keep a close eye on exetercityfc.co.uk for details.

At this stage the admission prices have not been set.

Will there be commemorative merchandise/replica shirts on sale?
It is the club’s intention to make every effort to produce limited-edition replica shirts for sale covering both teams, plus a range of other commemorative items.

Will there be other matches played?  Will these be also in Rio?
The club would ideally like to play two other matches but this is something still being negotiated by our representatives in Brazil.  As to the locations, this is again something we will have to wait to be sure about and able to comment on.  Details will follow on exetercityfc.co.uk as and when arrangements are made.

Until we hear definite news regarding other matches, the club will be focusing on 20th July 2014 in Rio de Janeiro at the Estádio das Laranjeiras, home to Fluminense.

Do you need a visa to travel to Brazil?
If you hold a valid British passport, you do not need a visa.  For any other nationality, we suggest you check with the website of the Brazilian Embassy.
