Midfielder commits to another year at St James Park
We’re delighted to confirm that Matt Oakley has signed a new contract with the Exeter City for the 2013/14 season.
The former Southampton, Derby and Leicester midfielder was initially brought into St James Park on loan in 2011, before being signed on a one-year deal ahead of the 2012/13 season when his contract at the King Power Stadium expired.
His season was brought to an early end when he sustained a shoulder injury during the Grecians’ home League 2 tie against Gillingham in March. He came through surgery successfully but was unable to return in time for the season’s end.
However Oakley has been back in training at the Cat & Fiddle over the course of the summer and turned out for Exeter against QPR in the first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2013/14 campaign – and will wear the red and white stripes for the forthcoming campaign.
