City to toss up against Topsham St James XI
We’re counting down to the date that all cricket fans have been waiting for. For the past year, cricket buffs have been counting down the days on their calendar towards Wednesday 10th July… when Exeter City FC take on Topsham St James Invitational XI!
Are you interested in being part of that Topsham St James Invitational XI team? It costs just £30 to be part of the team to line up against the Exeter City squad – and that includes a cricket tea too. If you're interested in playing, or if you wish to enquire about sponsorship opportunities or booking a table in the marquee, contact David Evans by emailing david.evans@exetercityfc.co.uk or ringing 07827 871 723. City boss Paul Tisdale will be holding a Q&A in the clubhouse after the game to preview the coming season.
Never mind the Ashes series that begins on the same day – Topsham Rugby Club will be the place to be, as Paul Tisdale and his Grecians go into battle on the wicket against Topsham St James, and aim to replicate last year’s performance. A year ago, a batting partnership between Tis and John O’Flynn helped City to victory in the Twenty20 match.
The match came alive when Flynny headed to the crease – the Irishman clocked 29, with Tis supporting with a solid 23, helping the Grecians to pass the 98 set by Topsham St James with an over to spare.
The match takes place the day before Exeter City’s friendly fixture against Queens Park Rangers, and the first ball will fly down the wicket at 5.30pm. There will also be a cricket taster session for kids running from 4pm.
Exeter City’s Supporters’ Trust, Football in the Community and Red Army will also be in attendance with stalls, and raffles and auctions will be held throughout the day. Entrance is free to the event, though there is a £1 charge for the car park – but all money raised will go towards the Academy and Football in the Community.
So come down to support the boys at Topsham Rugby Club in the T20 again this year on Wednesday 10th July and help to make it another great occasion like last year.
(NB. Topsham Rugby Club are hosting the event, NOT the University of Exeter’s cricket pitch next door.)
