Ladies secure second round passage
Exeter City Ladies put themselves into the hat for the first round proper of the FA Women’s Cup for the second year running with a comprehensive 6-0 victory against Parley Sports Ladies.
Parley, currently sitting second in the Southern Region Women’s Football League, were chasing within 30 seconds of kick-off. The Grecians pressed the kick-off and won the ball instantly, and Tash Knapman opened the scoring when Lola Garcia Sanchez cut back into her path from the left.
Garcia Sanchez then put on the afterburners to latch onto Josie Copp’s through-ball to slot in to double the lead, and added another by guiding in Kirsty Caunter’s cross to open a three-goal margin.
The game was effectively over before the interval as Caunter netted one for herself, before Knapman completed her brace when summer signing Vicky Barter slipped her through one-on-one.
Parley, somewhat rejuvenated after the break, were keen to break things up after the interval as they aimed to capitalise on the lack of urgency that City were showing. But the Grecians netted the sixth and final goal on the hour mark, as Copp hammered in from close-range after a Caunter corner.
