Southampton to provide first round opposition
Exeter City will host Southampton in the Under-21 Premier League Cup at St James Park.
The Saints have a fine track record of producing talent at their club – with Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott being amongst their alumni. Teenage prodigy Luke Shaw is the latest youngster to be turning heads after coming through the ranks at Staplewood.
The Grecians reached the first round proper on Tuesday evening by overcoming their Crystal Palace counterparts at Selhurst Park with a 3-2 victory in the second qualifying round. Exeter had overcome local rivals Torquay United in a home tie in the previous round.
Southampton, as a Category 1 Academy, enter the competition at this stage, along with 18 other clubs that fall into the same bracket.
Exeter City could potentially be the only outfit from Sky Bet League 2 remaining in the Round of 32, if Plymouth can’t overcome Watford and if QPR beat AFC Wimbledon.
The tie will take place within 14 days of Monday 18th November 2013. The exact date and time and admission details will be announced in due course.
