Defender links up with City
We are pleased to announce that Danny Butterfield is joining Exeter City Football Club subject to the completion of a medical.
The 33-year-old right-back joins after leaving Carlisle United by mutual consent earlier this month. Butterfield gained Premier League experience during his eight years spent with Crystal Palace, and was part of the Southampton side that won back-to-back promotions in 2011 and 2012, taking the Saints from League 1 to the Premier League.
The defender began his footballing career with Grimsby Town and spent almost a decade with the club as a youth player and a professional, before joining the Eagles. Butterfield has also spent loan spells with Charlton and Bolton during his career.
Lincolnshire-born Butterfield is also known for his versatility – and even proved himself an adept marksman by hitting a six-minute hat-trick against Wolves in the FA Cup in 2010, after being deployed as a makeshift striker!
Butterfield will not be in the matchday squad against Newport County AFC.
