Grecians boss praises team impact of City forward
For the Grecians, the visit of Newport County AFC on Saturday offers a chance to build on three home wins from three in Sky Bet League 2 at St James Park so far this season.
One of the oft-cited reasons for the turnaround of home form is the introduction of Sam Parkin into the team. The striker has already chipped in with a couple of goals this season and put in some good individual shifts – but City manager Paul Tisdale was keen to highlight that his contribution to the team as a whole has been the most telling part.
Tis explained: “Sam is part of a group who are required to play to their maximum. Some of that will be down to how they individually play, and they will affect the games as individuals.
“But part of it – which I suppose is the more intangible part – is when groups of players and units on the field play together, and create form or productivity that is the sum of the parts.
“Sam sets a tone individually, but he also helps other players play. He provides links with other units on the field and that means we can force the play at time a bit more.
“He is one player that has come into our team that has definitely given us an extra dimension. He is different to other players, but what he brings is something which we’ve used already to our advantage already this season.”
