City to take on Gulls in U21 Premier League Cup
We are delighted to announce that we have been drawn at home against Torquay United in the first qualifying round of the Under-21 Premier League Cup. The tie will take place at St James Park on Monday 30th September (kick-off 7pm).
The prize for the winning team will be a trip to Selhurst Park in the second qualifying round, in order to take on Crystal Palace.
A total of 52 clubs across the country – including Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton – have entered teams into the first edition of this competition, which has been arranged by the Barclays Premier League. The overriding purpose of the tournament is to help facilitate a ‘smoother transition’ to life as a professional for Academy players and young pros, by giving another incentive of a cup run and playing on a bigger stage.
Competition rules state that fixtures must be played at the main stadium of the home side, and teams can field players between the ages of 16 and 21 with up to three over-age outfield players and an over-age goalkeeper.
We drew a great crowd of 548 fans for our under-18 friendly fixture at St James Park recently, while any fans that stayed home to watch the England v Ukraine game were wishing they had come to the Park to see the young Grecians fight back to earn a fantastic 2-2 draw against the Premier League side!
Entry prices will be announced in the very near future. Come and enjoy another youth game at the Park, and help to provide another great atmosphere under the floodlight for the boys!
