D’Urso to take charge of fixture with the Shrimps
Experienced official Andy D’Urso will take charge of City’s re-arranged home clash with Morecambe tomorrow night, just as he was meant to for the original waterlogged fixture in January.
D’Urso has been an ever-present in the Football League since 1994 and officiated regularly in the Premier League between 1999 and 2005, with his last game in the top flight a 3-3 draw between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.
Despite no longer officiating at the very highest level, D’Urso still features in high-profile fixtures, most recently last season’s League 1 play-off final which saw Yeovil defeat Brentford at Wembley.
The last time D’Urso was in control of a game involving the Grecians was the 3-0 reverse at Leyton Orient in December 2011, although he also had the whistle for Exeter’s famous 2-1 win at Hillsborough on the last day of the 2010/11 season. He last took charge of Morecambe in their 2-2 draw at Wycombe in December 2012.
So far this season the Essex-based referee has brandished 65 yellow cards and 6 reds in his 23 games, and last weekend was stationed at the South Yorkshire derby between Doncaster and Barnsley in the Championship.
