Woolmer taking charge of the whistle
Andy Woolmer will take charge of City’s home clash with Rochdale on Saturday.
Woolmer’s first visit to SJP was back in September 2003 for a 1-1 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge during the Conferenced days, and after that he did not take in another Grecians fixture until last season’s Devon Derby. Woolmer sent off Plymouth’s Maxime Blanchard in the 1-1 draw, and this weekend will be his first City game since then.
He has been a permanent fixture in the Football League since the 2004/05 season and this season has taken charge of 21 games across all three divisions, showing 61 yellow cards. Saturday’s opponents Rochdale have been the only recipients of a red card from Woolmer this campaign, with Michael Rose dismissed in the closing stages of their 3-0 defeat at Scunthorpe on New Year’s Day.
Woolmer was a professional linesman before making the transition to referee, and ran the line at the 2003 League Cup final and Community Shield of the same year, both at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
