Ladies earn victory in Chichester
Exeter City Ladies kept their slender title hopes alive with a 2-1 win in their penultimate match away at Chichester.Exeter led the game as early as the second minute, when Tash Knapman extended her position as the division’s top-goalscorer in typically clinical fashion.
The hosts worked their way back into the game and began to get on top – the post denied the equaliser from an effort inside the six-yard box.
Chichester continued their dominance in the second period but the Grecians’ defence held firm. And instead it was the Exeter that got the game’s next goal to open a wider margin, as Knapman netted a 25-yard free-kick after Vicky Barter was felled.
It looked like there may have been a nervy finale in store as Chichester found the net in the 94th minute as a corner wasn’t cleared.
Regardless of where City Ladies finish in the league campaign, they could still win silverware in the county’s premier cup competition.
Following the final league fixture against Cheltenham, the last match of the campaign comes at the Devon County FA headquarters at Coach Road on Thursday 16th April, as they face Torquay United Ladies in the final of the SWH Ltd Devon Womens Senior Cup.
