City supporter gets monthly gong
Exeter City fan Joe McCrea has been named the Sky Bet League 2 Fan of the Month for March 2015.Joe had not missed an Exeter game all season, and he did not intend missing the 700-mile round trip to Carlisle at the start of March.
But a missed alarm meant that the supporters’ coach, run by Grecian Travel, left Exeter at 6am with an empty seat where Joe would normally sit.
Despite this setback, Joe got a taxi to Exeter St Davids station for 7.30am and paid £130 for a one-way ticket to Carlisle (no small amount for a student) to ensure he was at Brunton Park to see the 3-1 victory.
Joe said: “I was gutted I had missed the coach and thought I was going to miss my first game of the season.
“And for that reason I had to find a way of getting there. I ended up arriving 15 minutes after the coach. It turned into a day I will remember for the rest of my life.
“It feels awesome to have won the Sky Bet Fan of the Month award. I haven’t missed a game for a year and a half so it is nice to be recognised.”
Exeter manager Paul Tisdale said: “We have some wonderfully committed fans like Joe who travel hundreds of miles across the country to support our team.
“I’m really pleased that Joe went beyond the call of duty and made it up to Carlisle, despite missing the supporters’ coach, to keep up his perfect attendance record for the season.
“And I’m glad we were able to reward his dedication with a terrific win!”
