Ladies register home victory
Exeter City Ladies secured an important three points at home against Larkhall, despite not being at their best. The result keeps them within three points of league leaders Swindon ahead of their meeting tomorrow at Minster Park, kicking off at 2pm, with both teams hoping to build their title credentials.
The opening goal came 11 minutes in, when a loose goal-kick allowed Hollie Stone to apply pressure and allowed Tash Knapman to slot in coolly as the ball fell her way for Exeter.
However Larkhall were level from the penalty spot after Sophie Russell brought down an opponent in the area, allowing the visitors to even things up before the break.
Manager Gareth Young was far from impressed with the Grecians’ performance and brought Carla Staddon and Chloe Williams into action at half-time.
Exeter responded well but it took until the midpoint of the second half before their second goal came – Lola Garcia Sanchez was fouled in the area and Kirsty Caunter, ever reliable from the spot, converted the penalty.
Williams netted the third and final goal for Exeter, forcing the ball home at the second attempt after Knapman had squared a pass across the box.
