For the third time in as many years, Exeter City will travel to a pre-season fixture against Weston-super-Mare when they visit Woodspring Stadium on Wednesday for a 7.45pm kick-off.
The Grecians have defeated the Seagulls on each of the previous two occasions – two years ago, Nabi Diallo’s goal wasn’t enough for the hosts, as an Elliott Chamberlain double and a single strike from Jake Gosling made it 3-1 to the guests. And last year, it was a single strike from Ollie Watkins which sealed a 1-0 City win.
And Watkins scored on a few more occasions on the same stage last season – he returned to the Woodspring Stadium on loan, as did fellow City players Matt Jay and Jordan Tillson, and he netted 10 times for Weston.
In the past, Exeter have often sent a team of young and peripheral players to Somerset – but with pre-season just in its opening stages, there might be a more experienced complexion to the selection as game-time looks to be shared across the team.
Ex-Exeter midfielder Jacob Jagger Cane currently wears the white shirt and could feature against his old club, as he did the previous season.
And Weston manager Ryan Northmore, who played in goal for Paul Tisdale at Team Bath over two spells, will be aiming to push the Seagulls higher in the National League South this season, following a 17th-place finish last year.
Tickets for this fixture should be bought on arrival at Woodspring Stadium. Click here for full ticket information for the game.
