Hatters take victory in Bedfordshire
Exeter City’s Under-18 contingent weren’t able to build on a 4-1 win against Southend at the weekend, as they were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline when they visited Luton Town in midweek. The Tuesday afternoon fixture took place at Ely Way in Luton, rearranged from six weeks earlier when the teams were due to meet only for the weather to cause the game to be called off.
The teams were evenly balanced in the opening stages, and just as City were beginning to control the tempo, the Hatters profited from a freak goal in their favour.
Goalkeeper Kavanagh Keadell attempted a clearance, but fortune wasn’t on his side as the ball ricocheted off an attacking Luton player and landed straight in the net.
The goal, unfortunate though it was, proved the turning point and allowed the home side to gain the momentum in the match.
And the lead was doubled early in the second period when the Hatters opened a two-goal margin, heading in from a corner for the game’s final goal.
