Three former Tottenham greats entertain guests
Former Tottenham Hotspur legends Jimmy Greaves, Alan Gilzean and Steve Perryman were our guests at a Spurs Legends at St James Park, which took place in the Grand Marquee on Thursday 30th April.Almost 400 guests – Tottenham supporters and otherwise – came from far and wide to be entertained by the three stars of the lilywhite shirt.
Amongst the guests were Phil Beal, who played over 300 times in defence for Spurs as a teammate of the stars, as well former Tottenham manager Keith Burkinshaw, who was in the dugout when Perryman captained Spurs to back-to-back FA Cup titles in 1981 and 1982, as well as overseeing the UEFA Cup triumph of 1984.
With 1,686 Spurs appearances between them, as well as 80 international caps, there were plenty of anecdotes of bygone days as well ruminations on the modern game.
After Greaves had delivered an entertaining one-man discourse, the evening opened into a Q&A session involving the audience, with ITV stalwart Mark Tyler fielding the questions. Guests also enjoyed a homemade curry, took part in some fun and games, and bid on a number of wonderful auction prizes.
Mark Jenkins, Senior Commercial Manager at Exeter City, said: “We are hugely grateful to our guests to providing such a wonderfully entertaining evening and to everyone that came to support the evening.
“Thanks in particular must go to Walter H Squires, Heavitree Brewery and Malcolm and Sarah Freeman for their support of the evening, Steve Perryman for helping to arrange the night, and Gary Moore for providing the auction items and prizes.
“And I think I speak for everyone at Exeter City in wishing Jimmy Greaves a full and speedy recovery after suffering a stroke last week – get well soon Jimmy.”
