Exeter City sign Reading midfielder Jack Stacey on loan

Midfielder joins on loan until January 23

Exeter City have signed Reading midfielder Jack Stacey on loan until January 23.

The 20-year-old is the Grecians’ second loan signing of the day following the arrival of Crystal Palace defender Luke Croll.

Stacey, who made his debut for Reading in August 2014, scored for the Royals in their 3-2 win at Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy match at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. He also grabbed a goal and assist during the club’s pre-season win at Swindon Town last month.

The Ascot-born midfielder has been a regular in Reading’s under-23 squad and while his best position is thought to be in midfield he has also played at right-back and as part of a front three for the Royals this season.

He has a total of six appearances for the Royals, all of which came during the 2014/15 campaign.  Last season, he played twice for Barnet during a short-term loan spell before making nine appearances for Carlisle United, where he netted twice for the Cumbrians.

Stacey, who will go straight into contention for a first-team place away at Colchester United on Saturday, will know a few faces in the City dressing room with former Royals Jake Taylor and Pierce Sweeney at St James Park.

City’s league programme could allow Stacey to feature in as many as 22 league fixtures for the Grecians before his loan is scheduled to expire after a home meeting with Colchester United in January.
