City Ladies beaten in Wiltshire
EXETER CITY LADIES are still without a win in 2016 after a 3-0 defeat at Swindon Town.City travelled to the title favourites hoping to stem their recent run of poor results. It was a difficult game for both teams, with the wind picking up throughout the match. Swindon played against the wind in the first half, but the ball held up nicely for them in the build-up to their first goal. Nice play down the right wing allowed a midfielder to put a cross along the face of goal, with Megan Attenborough gratefully slotting in at the back post.
It took another ten minutes for the home side to double their lead with an almost exact replica of the first goal, this time Ellie Maynard coming in from the left. City struggled to get the ball up to striker Helen Kukor and strike partner Soph Simpson, and when they did, the wind would take the ball away from them. Meg Vella made it 3-0, and the Grecians were sadly out of sight. The visitors did have a shout for a penalty when a flick-on by Kukor allowed Simpson a shot on goal but she was taken out from behind after she'd made contact with the ball. The ref waved for play on.
The second half weather conditions made the pitch slippy, and it was difficult for either side to get a firm hold on the game. The City midfield and defence were made to work hard, but put up a stern fight. City goalkeeper Abbi Bond has to have a special mention for some outstanding saves.
The Ladies now head into their final game of the campaign, away at St. Nicholas this Sunday afternoon.
