Exeter City to play Nathan Jones side on weekend of November 5
Exeter City’s director of football Steve Perryman says he is expecting a competitive game with Luton Town when the Hatters visit St James Park for an FA Cup first round tie in November.
City, who took Liverpool to an FA Cup replay last season, were drawn against Nathan Jones’ team in the first round draw on Monday night.
Luton won on their last visit to St James Park but it was a pulsating encounter as City battled back from two goals down to draw level before Paul Benson won the game with a contentious goal deep into injury time.
“It was a very competitive game at St James Park last season and a great comeback,” said Steve. “Unfortunately, there was a sting in the tail, but they are obviously a good team and we look forward to them coming down to Exeter.
“It will hopefully be a big crowd and lots of noise and I think we are better off in those games.”
Steve admits, with both sides having been in League Two for the past two and a half campaigns, there will be no shocks in store for either team.
However, he is hopeful City can repeat some of the cup joy they have already had this campaign at St James Park.
“There will be no surprises anywhere, but the cup being the cup we have all done it for a lot of years and sometimes it doesn’t matter about form,” he said.
“And don’t forget this season we have had a good victory at home Brentford in the EFL Cup and we took the lead against Hull City. So we have already had a bit of cup action at St James Park and it is more to come now with Luton Town. I’m looking forward to it.”
