Travel guide: Newport County AFC (Monday, January 1)

Exeter City travel to Rodney Parade on New Year's Day for a 3pm kick-off. Here is our guide to visiting Newport County AFC.

STADIUM RODNEY PARADE (NP19 0UU):

The ground has a capacity of 11,676. However, this is reduced to 7,850 for football. Most away fans are housed in one side of the Bisley Stand where 580 fans can be accommodated. It is all seated and covered. In addition to this, a small block of temporary seating is made available, with room for 400. Both areas share the same facilities. The entrance into the away stand is only marked by two poles in a residential area and is poorly signposted.

BY ROAD:

Use the M5 and M4 and follow the M4 to Newport. Take exit 25 from the M4. Then, follow the B4956 until you take a left onto Duckpool Road. Then take a left onto Church Road before taking the next left onto Hereford Street. At the end of Hereford Street, take a left and then the next right onto Harrow Road. Then, at the end of Harrow Road, take a left onto Corporation Road; you will see the Rodney Parade on you left.

BY RAIL:

The journey from Exeter St David’s to Newport would take around two hours and would require a change, at Bristol. The 11.24am from Exeter St David’s on New Year’s Day will get you into Newport at 13.26pm. As you come out of the main station entrance, turn left along the main road. Then, follow this road until you find a large roundabout. Take the pedestrian underpass down underneath the roundabout and at the centre turn left towards Clarence Place/River Usk. When you are back at street level you should see a bridge in front of you going across the river. Cross the bridge and then take the first right into Rodney Parade and the stadium is down this road and on your left.

PARKING:

You can either use one of the city centre car parks which will be a 15-minute walk from the ground or you can use street parking. However, beware of parking restrictions as there is a residents only parking scheme in some parts.

PUBS/FOOD:

There is a club house at the ground that will admit away fans. There are two pubs on Corporation Road and one on Chepstow Road. There are also plenty of pubs to be found in the city centre which is a 10 to 15-minute walk from Rodney Parade.

TOTAL DISTANCE:

The total distance from St James Park to Rodney Parade is 96 miles and would take around two hours to drive.
