Staff and supporters of Exeter City run half marathon in memory of Eamonn Dolan

More than £250 raised for Action Bladder Cancer UK

Staff and supporters of Exeter City have helped raise more than £250 for Action Bladder Cancer UK by running the Exeter half marathon in memory of Eammon Dolan.

Eamonn, who passed away at the age of 48 in the summer, managed City in the 2003/04 season – in its hour of need – and was also instrumental in laying the foundation for the excellent work the Football in the Community and Exeter City academy now does.

Therefore, when media manager Simon Larkins and marketing manager Scott Palfrey signed up to run the Exeter half marathon – which is organized and run by Exeter City’s Football in the Community department – they chose to raise money for Action Bladder Cancer UK in Eamonn’s memory.

They were joined by friends Lee Channer, Katie Pilkington and Leigh Brooks, who helped raise money for the cause and wore Action Bladder Cancer UK t-shirts during the race to help raise awareness of the excellent work the charity puts in.

A broken elbow and cracked rib meant Leigh couldn’t participate in the race on Sunday, February 12, but the other participants all managed to complete the 13.1-mile distance around the two-hour mark.

Speaking after the race, Simon Larkins, said: “I must thank everyone who helped raise money for the cause and, of course, those that donated.

“It was a shame that Leigh was unable to run the race through injury, as the other four runners really enjoyed taking on the route around the Exeter canal and raising awareness of Action Bladder Cancer UK.”

Marketing manager Scott Palfrey, added: “This was the furthest I have ever run, so it was great to be able to raise money for a very important cause and to challenge myself.

“I’ve got to thank City Fit Club for helping motivate me to get running in the first place, and will be looking to do a few more runs for charity in the near future.”
