There were plenty of sixes and fours at Shaldon Optimists cricket club on Monday night as Exeter City’s first team players proved more than usual with the bat.
The event, which was organized by Exeter City’s deputy estates manager Charlie Woolnough, saw the majority of the first team squad split into four teams to take on each other with manager Paul Tisdale, coach Matt Taylor and members of Shaldon Optimists cricket club providing the wicket-keeping and bowling.
The afternoon got off to a disastrous start for the Exeter City players as some poor communication between Jake Taylor and Pierce Sweeney saw the latter run out in calamitous circumstances. However, after that, the performances improved.
Reuben Reid, who came into the game with a big reputation, didn’t disappoint as he smashed two off Tis’ deliveries out of the ground on his way to four sixes and five fours from a productive afternoon at the crease.
There were other good performances with the bat. Ryan Brunt, who is training with the team during pre-season, hit eight sixes and one four, while Robbie Simpson smashed six sixes and one four.
Tis took six wickets in total, while there were also good catches from Matt Jay, Ollie Watkins, Pierce Sweeney and a spectacular one-handed take from Luke Croll.
