Exeter City will soon be opening negotiations with Chelsea over a fee for Ethan Ampadu and we will inform fans when we have further information.
Ethan played 13 games for Exeter City last season and become the club’s youngest ever player when he made his debut 15 years, 10 months and 26 days.
However, the talented youngster – who has been capped at Wales under-17 and under-19 level as well as called up to the country’s senior squad – agreed to join Chelsea on Saturday, July 1, having turned down the scholarship forms at St James Park.
As a result, at this point, there is no agreed transfer fee. However, being a product of Exeter City Academy and under the age of 24, the club is entitled to compensation and discussions between the two clubs is on-going.
Exeter City chairman Julian Tagg gave Exeter City supporters the following update: “We are delighted for Ethan and we wish him all the best for the future.
“Chelsea have behaved impeccably throughout the lead up to this point and therefore we are hoping through these negotiations we will avoid the need for a tribunal. However, we – like any other club – will reserve our right to do that should we need to.
“Having had some experience of tribunals before, we know it is the tribunal’s job to ensure a fairness and our experiences of previous tribunals has shown us just that fairness.”
