Exeter City fell to their second pre-season defeat of the summer as goals from Luke Burbridge and Ollie Balmer gave Poole Town a 2-0 win over the Grecians.
City began the match with an experienced starting XI and created the first chance of the game as Jordan Moore-Taylor headed over a Lee Holmes corner.
However, the hosts took a surprise 1-0 lead when a long ball from their keeper Nick Hutchins was allowed to bounce its way through to Burbridge and he lifted a shot past the advancing James Hamon and into the net.
The visitors continued to look a threat in the first 45 minutes, with Ryan Harley having a couple of shots from distance that were held by Hutchins; David Wheeler having a shot on the half hour turned behind and Moore-Taylor and Troy Brown going close from corners.
However, the chance of the match for the visitors came eight minutes into the second half as an inviting ball into the area, from Pierce Sweeney, found Reuben Reid unmarked eight yards from goal. The City striker couldn't get the connection he would have wanted on the ball though and the effort went over the crossbar.
City made a host of changes on the 70-minute mark with substitute Ryan Brunt having a shot cleared off the line and Matt Jay putting another good chance just wide of the right-hand post.
The Grecians also grazed the crossbar when Jack Sparkes got down the left and crossed towards the near post for Liam McAlinden to send a first-time volley agonisingly close.
However, it proved not to be City's night as Ollie Balmer completed the Poole Town victory by hitting his own volley into the net with virtually the last kick of the game to make it 2-0.
