Dean Moxey has praised the Exeter City fans for their support this season and thinks their backing could be crucial going into the remaining four matches of the campaign.
Ahead of the Grecians’ match at home to Chesterfield on Tuesday night, Moxey says the supporters have been fantastic all season at St James Park, as well as those that travel to the away matches throughout the campaign.
He said: “We’ve said it all season. The fans at St James Park, and those that travel all those distances to come and support us in their numbers, have been fantastic all year and these next few games at home could be a crucial.”
With the Grecians pushing to claim an automatic promotion spot over the remaining four matches it is very much all to play for in League Two, but Moxey feels City will have to be at their best to beat a Chesterfield side who will be determined to pick up the three points at St James Park.
He continued: “It’s going to be a tough match. They’re fighting for their lives down at the bottom which is tough for them, but it’s a big game for us to get three points.
“We’ve still got the chance of automatic promotion so that’s what we’re looking at. If, come the end of the season, we are in the play-offs then we are in the play-offs and we will try and go up that way.”
The Grecians have been forced to make a number of selection changes of late, with injuries keeping out the likes of Jordan Moore-Taylor, Troy Brown, Ryan Harley and Lee Holmes in recent weeks.
Despite that, Moxey has praised the young players who have stepped in and performed well as City picked up positive results against the likes of Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United and Accrington Stanley.
He said: “I think we’ve got a great squad here, we have both young and experienced players. It’s one of those where if the youngsters ask you a question then you try and help them out.
“The lads that have come in have done brilliantly. It’s about talking to them on the pitch, Kane Wilson played on my side on the left recently and I try to help him out and keep talking to him and help him get into position when we are defending. Kane is such a good player, he takes things in his stride and I didn’t have to help him too much but it’s just a case of being there to get onto him.”
