đź“ť Big Match Preview: Morecambe v City

Exeter City make the long trip to Morecambe as they aim to build on a positive start to their Sky Bet League Two campaign.

After beating Carlisle United 3-1 on the opening day of the season the Grecians will travel to the north west of England with confidence as they play their first away match of the season.

Ahead of the clash, manager Matt Taylor said: “It’s a difficult one for us after they were beaten 6-0 away from home on the first day. I’ve watched the game, we’ve all watched it, and it certainly wasn’t a 6-0 game, they were very much in the match for long periods.

“Morecambe away is a really tough fixture. We went there last season when we needed the points badly, but we didn’t perform well having gone 1-0 up. It’s a difficult place to go, and they will be right at us from the word go. The manager is a really good experienced manager at this level and he’ll have them fired up for it.”

WHEN WE LAST MET

The sides last met on a blustery day at the Globe Arena back in March when City were pushing for the promotion places. They went ahead through Pierce Sweeney who fired the ball into the bottom corner, before goals from Sam Lavelle and Michael Rose put the match beyond the Grecians.

By Road:

Follow the M5 and M6 to A683 in Lancashire. Exit the M6 at junction 34 and follow the signs for Morecambe. After around five miles you will reach a crossroads (with a McDonalds over on the right) where you turn right onto the Morecambe Road.

You will then reach a roundabout, (where there is a Toby Carvery) where you take the first exit into Westgate Road (signposted West Promenade, Sandylands). Continue along this road for about one mile and you will reach the stadium on your right.

Pubs/Food:

Just outside the ground is a Marston’s pub that serves food and drinks. Also, the Regent Leisure Holiday Park serves food and drinks with Sky Sports on a large screen.

If you have time, it is also a good bet to take a 15-minute walk down to the seafront. With the entrance to the stadium behind you turn right and it is then a straight road up to the promenade.

On reaching the seafront, where there are some great views across Morecambe Bay, turn right and you will reach a few more bars, including Davy Jones Locker in the basement of the Clarendon Hotel, as well as a cafe, for those feeling hungry.
