Today a new chapter in the history of our beloved football club begins. A new era under former captain Matt Taylor. Today 'The 1,000th Goal' picks out his final goal for the Grecians, number 535 under The Trust.
City had fallen behind to relegation threatened Dagenham and Redbridge in the 76th minute courtesy of a Romain Vincelot tap in.
With a late play off push seemingly beyond reach, it was Taylor's header which spearheaded the Grecians late fightback and kept the promotion dream alive.
David Noble delivered an inch-perfect free kick onto the head of the onrushing Taylor who, unmarked at the back post, headed across Tony Roberts to bring City level with nine minutes to go.
The comeback was complete six minutes later, when Richard Logan headed in Daniel Nardiello's cross to ensure all three points remained at St James Park. The win lifted City up to tenth, within eight points of the play offs with six games remaining.
