Defender Aaron Martin says the aims for the Exeter City squad haven’t changed this season, despite a run of eight games in Sky Bet League Two without a victory.
The Grecians were second in the table after beating Swindon Town 2-0 at home in October, but a dip in form has seen them drop to ninth in the table. However, Aaron says the team just have to stick together and cut out their mistakes and they will be back on track sooner rather than later.
“If we win the next two or three games then we could be right back up there and this team is more than capable of doing that,” he said. “I think we set our standards quite high quite early, but the standards are still as high, if it not higher. I think we just need to get back to that consistency again.
“Obviously, with the run, we have been on it hasn’t been great but everyone just needs to stick together again and get back to playing like we know we can and hopefully we get the result that we want.”
Clean sheets have also been an issue in recent weeks, and Aaron is keen for them to cut out some of their defensive errors.
“It has been really frustrating the last few games with the goals that we have conceded,” he said. “When you look at the games, teams are very rarely having loads of chances against us it has just been killing us really and we just need to put that right.
“Once we do that I think we will push on again. We know how good we are we just need to keep working on it, keep going – we are not even halfway through the season yet – so there is a long way to go. This period will be crucial for us so we will get together and we will push on again.”
