This Saturday sees the final scheduled fixture clash of the season with Exeter Chiefs, which will see a small amount of train services to and from St James Park affected, and fans are asked to use Central Station on Saturday to minimise inconvenience.
The unavoidable change is caused by the short platform at St James Park. With greater demand on the service, longer trains will be in use which cannot safely stop and guarantee that all passengers needing to get off at St James Park can do so.
Exeter City supporters will therefore need to get off at Exeter Central, and exit via the North Road exit at the back of the station, then walk along New North Road towards John Lewis. At John Lewis turn left in to Sidwell Street and follow the road up to Old Tiverton Road which will be signposted ‘Exeter City Football Club’. The walk should take around 15 to 20 minutes.
The services affected are:
PRE-MATCH
- Exmouth to Exeter direction: Trains due at SJP at 13.49 and 14.50
- Exeter to Exmouth direction: Trains due at SJP at 13.24, 13.59 and 14.24
POST-MATCH
- Exmouth to Exeter direction: Trains due at SJP at 17.17, 17.48 and 18.18
Leaflets with details will be at SJP (in the information booth, shop and ticket booth) and at Central Station and these will contain the opportunity to enter a competition to win a pair of GWR travel tickets.
Network Rail are currently exploring options to extend the platform at St James Park station to avoid this disruption of the service in the future.
